With a bit of an appetite building again, I thought I would make hay while the sun shines, and pay a visit to the highly acclaimed The Smoke Pit BBQ Co. I was tagged in a flyer on Facebook, it was advertsing an event at The Terrace Inn, Penkhull. It's a nice little pub which sits at the top of Penkhull Bank, if you're walking, the hill is not for the faint hearted! Or you could say the walk earns your burgers?
We arrived early and there was already a queue, there must have been 25-30 people ahead of us. I don't mind waiting for good food, and on a cold March evening, I could really see these burgers going down a treat. I went for the New Yorker, with chilli cheese cajun fries and buffalo wings. My friend went for The Mac Daddy burger with the regular cajun fries. Even as we were ordering, more and more people were arriving, so I'm definately glad that my friend and I decided to go early.
My friend ordered The Mac Daddy and was equally satisfied with the quality of his burger. The chuck steak patty was cooked perfectly and topped with a home made macaroni cheese. The cheesy bacon combo was "not for the faint hearted" apparently. I think that will be my next choice, however, I would happily pay for a lobster roll if it was an option. The size of the portions were very fair for the price.
